Notice to the Members of the Brokenhead Ojibway Nation
Over the past several years, Brokenhead Ojibway Nation has experienced fraudulent cheque cashing at its businesses. A directive was sent on December 10, 2018 to the Managers of the BON Businesses for recommendations on cheque cashing at the businesses. The report back to Council from the Managers preferred getting out of cheque cashing all together because it places zero risk and loss to the BON Businesses.
At a duly convened meeting of the BON Development Corporation on November 19, 2019, Directors voted unanimously to implement the Managers recommendations to stop cashing cheques in all BON Businesses. This decision was followed up with a Motion to adopt the BON Development Corporation decision at a duly convened BON Chief and Council meeting on November 25, 2019.
Effective March 1, 2020, Brokenhead Ojibway Nation will be transitioning all accounts payable and Social Assistance cheques to Electronic Fund Transfers (EFT).
